Description

As energy codes become more stringent, residential builders and design professionals are under increasing pressure to deliver high-performance homes without significantly increasing costs. This session explores advanced framing techniques and construction methods that optimize material use and improve thermal performance to help professionals meet or exceed new energy efficiency standards. Receive an in-depth look at how strategic framing adjustments can reduce thermal bridging, increase insulation space, and minimize waste while maintaining structural integrity. This session covers practical design details, code compliance considerations, and real-world examples that demonstrate both energy and cost savings.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the principles and goals of advanced framing and how they differ from conventional wood framing methods in residential construction.
  2. Identify specific framing techniques such as optimized spacing, two-stud corners, and insulated headers—that improve energy efficiency and material usage.
  3. Evaluate how advanced framing contributes to compliance with current residential energy codes (e.g., IECC) and voluntary standards (e.g., ENERGY STAR®, Zero Energy Ready Home).
  4. Apply advanced framing strategies in real-world projects by recognizing common implementation challenges and learning solutions to maintain structural integrity while maximizing performance.
