Description

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas and the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Pennsylvania has some of the highest predicted radon levels in the nation, making radon awareness and mitigation an important consideration for residential construction, renovation, and occupancy. This webinar will provide an overview of radon science, health risks, testing methods, and Pennsylvania-specific radon concerns. Participants will learn how radon enters buildings, review radon-resistant construction techniques, and examine mitigation strategies used to reduce indoor radon concentrations and improve occupant health and safety.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the sources of radon, how it enters residential buildings, and the health risks associated with long-term radon exposure.
  2. Identify areas of Pennsylvania with elevated radon potential and describe factors that influence radon concentrations in residential buildings.
  3. Evaluate radon testing methods and interpret test results to determine when additional investigation or mitigation may be warranted.
  4. Apply radon-resistant construction and mitigation strategies that reduce occupant exposure and support healthier indoor environments.
