The eighth biennial Residential Building Design & Construction Conference (RBDCC) provided a forum to discuss the latest research findings and innovations related to residential buildings. The 2026 RBDCC was held at The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center in State College, Pennsylvania on March 18-19. It featured two keynote speakers: Sarah Billington, UPS Foundation Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University, and Georg Reichard, professor and chair of the School of Building Construction in the College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Billington presented “From Concept to Community: Design Strategies for Sustainable Affordable Housing,” and Reichard presented “The 7 Habits of Successful Builders of High-Performance Homes.” Sessions highlighted a variety of topics including building science; earthquake resistant evaluation and design; panelized, modular, and offsite construction; hurricane and wind hazard for homes; mechanical, electrical, and plumbing; innovative and sustainable construction | technologies, issues, and materials; affordability, health, and social aspects of housing; housing styles | architecture ; residential construction education; technologies for sustainability | renewable energy; and building science | energy efficiency.

The RBDCC provides a forum for builders, design professionals, educators, manufacturers, and researchers to discuss the latest advancements in the field by sharing their research findings and innovations related to residential buildings. This conference focuses on various types of residential buildings, including single- and multi-family dwellings, mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings, factory-built and modular housing, dormitories, and hotels/motels.
