Description

Crawlspaces can be both a cost saver during construction and sometimes a necessity due to site conditions, but if done poorly or not designed and constructed with sustainability in mind, it can cost much more in the long run. In this webinar, we will take a look at design and construction of crawlspaces. Starting with the design and looking through the compliance paths listed in Section 408 of the 2015 IRC, we will compile a list of items necessary for the design and construction of a durable crawlspace. We will also take a look at some simulated examples of a poorly designed crawlspace and reveal the potential risks of non-compliance. Going one step further, we will look at some above code options to the design and construction of a crawlspace. This will provide a range of options so an informed and educated decision for the design and construction of your next crawlspace can be achieved.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the requirements for crawlspaces listed in Section 408 of the 2015 IRC for both design and construction.
  2. Look at simulated models to see the long term effects to code deficient, code compliant, and above code designed crawlspaces. This will provide crucial knowledge as to why it is important to pay special attention to the design and construction of crawlspaces.
  3. Identify critical design details for crawlspaces. These details will help in both the design along with reducing some of the risks associated with crawlspace construction.
  4. Review innovative crawlspace designs and understand how building science plays a critical role in both design and construction of crawlspaces.
